Methodology

We conducted our test using a MacBook Air (mid-2021 model). We based our comparison on the following factors:

  • Data usage
  • Compatibility with different devices

We tested both apps using Bose QuietComfort headphones and JBL Bluetooth speakers. We measured the audio quality, stability, and lag using an app called Audio Recorder.

Results

Audio Quality

We found that both Zoom and Skype provided high-quality audio when connected to Bluetooth devices. However, there were minor differences in the sound quality. Skype had a slightly louder and clearer sound than Zoom, which had a softer and more muffled sound.

Connection Stability

When it comes to data usage, Skype used less data than Zoom during our test. Skype used an average of 600KB/s, while Zoom used an average of 1.2MB/s. This difference may not be significant for users with a strong internet connection, but it could be notable for users with limited data plans.

Compatibility with Different Devices

Both Zoom and Skype are compatible with various devices, and they support Bluetooth connectivity with most of them. However, we found that Skype had better compatibility with older devices than Zoom. Zoom does support backward compatibility, but it may require additional software or updates to work correctly.
